Dr Dean Seah is a Melbourne and UK-trained Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with sub-specialty expertise in the management of luminal disorders of the gastrointestinal system. He is committed to providing high-quality, timely and empathetic care to his patients with clear and effective communication.
Dean was awarded a full national scholarship (now known as Melbourne Chancellor’s Scholarship) to study at The University of Melbourne and obtained his Doctor of Medicine with Distinction, graduating with first-class honours. He was appointed to the Dean’s Honours List for outstanding academic achievement and received numerous prizes including the Melbourne Global Scholars Award.
He undertook his gastroenterology training with the Victorian Liver & Intestinal Transplant Unit, Austin Health, and Monash Health, and following this, completed an advanced fellowship sub-specialising in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) at the world-renowned IBD Unit at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London, UK. During this time, he held the position of Research Fellow in the School of Immunology and Microbial Sciences at King’s College London and conducted cutting-edge research into the development of autologous cell-based immunotherapy for Crohn’s disease under the mentorship of Professor Peter Irving. In addition, he
was involved in many commercial and investigator-initiated trials, focussing on emerging therapies in IBD.
Upon his return to Australia, he was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Monash Health, where he is currently the Clinical Lead for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program as well as the Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology at Dandenong Hospital. He combines his clinical practice with gastroenterology research and has published widely in high-impact medical journals and presented at both national and international conferences.
Dean is experienced in all areas of gastroenterology, with particular interests in bowel cancer screening, inflammatory bowel disease, iron deficiency, reflux disease and hepatology. He is a CCRTGE-accredited endoscopist and performs both diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
